Archives of a Dream
This collection did not begin as a series.
I created these pictures over several years, during the strange stillness of the Covid pandemic, when tourism had come to a standstill and I found myself stranded on Bali island.
While our world was on hold and people seemed to have almost vanished from the face of the Earth, nature began to reclaim its space, regenerate, and breathe again.
The silence was strange, almost unreal. For a brief moment, reality itself seemed to have shifted. It felt like a strange kind of pause. An opportunity to imagine the world differently.
I began to play with the idea of reintroducing humans into the landscape, but… in my own way.
With gentleness, respect, and humility.
And through a gaze of wonder and enchantment.
My muses drift through the water, in harmony with the sea and marine life.
Sometimes they seem like ordinary visitors who cross the surface (just like Alice Through The Looking Glass) and are amazed to discover the existence of a surreal parallel world, where they can fly alongside fish and dance with Manta rays.
At other times, they seem like they belonged here since the dawn of time. Haunting depths… Bewitching sailors… Silent guardians of a mysterious underwater realm.
For me, the underwater world has always felt like a dreamlike interlude in reality : fleeting, mysterious, and governed by its own surreal logic.
We can enter it only briefly, on a single breath, before returning to the surface. Perhaps this is why I feel compelled to bring something back : a image, a piece of evidence.
My photographs are neither documents of reality, nor pure fantasy.
They exist in the fragile space between perception and imagination, like fragments of a lucid dream, or memories from a place that never truly existed.
By borrowing the visual language of historical documents, they create a timeless atmosphere and give the feeling of forgotten archives, as if these images came from the past rather than a dream.
And, well…
For a brief moment, this dream almost felt possible…

Inspired by the primordial waters from which life first emerged, these images inhabit a world where darkness is fertile, where chaos creates new forms, and where beauty arises from uncertainty.
